
After graduating from the ENSATT Roger Jouan's first professional steps will drive him towards Dance, working with Janine Charrat, Milorad Miskovitch, Rudolf Noureev, Pierre Lacotte, Gyslaine Thesmar..as a costume or set designer. He will fully take part in their tour as for the Festival of Carthage, Theâtre des Champs Elysées, Opera de Nancy, Théâtre National de Paris...
Later on, he was called to join the ORTF (french Tv Channel), working with film directors such as, Claude Santelli, Yves allegret, Raymond Rouleau, Daniel Lecomte, Jean Giraudoux, designing costumes for over 75 productions...
He then came back to Theatre working with renowned directors such as Raymond Rouleau, Michel Fagadeau, Jean Pierre Marielle...and with some young directors with a similar passion…Marc Delaruelle, Daniele Chutaux, the choreographer Marie-Laure Spéri...
Beside his experience with Dance, Cinema, or Theatre, Roger Jouan worked for the Paris Historical Library, and was in charge of directing major exhibitions.
Along his artistic journey, his life has always been punctuated by writings, and he signed many articles, revues, prefaces, as well as writing several books about theatre, having some of his plays being published.
Also Painter, and "Graveur", he exhibited his work in Roma, London and Brussels, and regularly in Paris galleries.
More recently he was the artistic director of "Théâtre du Petit Saint-Martin", formerly known as Marcel Marceau Studio and Theatre, and thanks to his position has encouraged the creation of over 10 different shows among young directors including Jean-Pierre Lamotte, Giuliano Errante...but also directed some artists... Adele Belmont, in Macadam blues, and Lionel Comellas in Chasse à l'âme. He is the foundator of the "Théâtre du MimOdrame", co-directing it with Lionel Comellas.
Roger jouan was decorated by the government as « Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres » in 2007
